Cristina Bowerman

Cristina Bowerman, Italian chef (1 Michelin star) was born in Cerignola, a small Apulian town. After graduating in Law, she moved to San Francisco to continue his law studies and worked on weekends at the Higher Grounds coffee house. Always passionate about cooking, she saw her passion explode years later, when, residing in Austin, she graduated in Culinary Arts, perfecting her discipline and working in particular on the concentration of flavors.

In 2005 he moved to Rome and after a first experience at the Convivio Troiani, she arrived at Glass Hostaria, a restaurant open for just a year in Trastevere.

Glass is a contemporary and innovative space both in philosophy and in gastronomic proposal, countercurrent with the Trasteverine scene, just like its cuisine, the result of experiences, travels, meetings, culinary training and studies that will never cease to be her primary source of inspiration. Cristina’s cuisine is a cultural crossing that tells about taste through the constant dialogue between traditions, cultures, memory and places.

Michelin star since 2010, she was a case study of Bocconi University in the same year. “From Cerignola to San Francisco and back – My life as a counter-current chef” (Mondadori, 2014) is one of two published books that underline the personality of a “counter-current chef”.

Her commitment is articulated on several fronts, starting from training and teaching. One of the projects that are closest to her heart is “Adopt a Hotel Institute”, within #fareformazione, the Memorandum of Understanding aimed at improving and expanding the training offer in the hotel schools, signed with Re.Na. IA – National Network of Hotel Institutes, on behalf of the Italian Association of Taste Ambassadors, of which Cristina is one of the founding members and President since 2016.

Her commitment as an Ambassador of taste was born in 2015 when she was appointed Chef Ambassador of Expo Milano 2015 where she has the opportunity, together with Paolo Marchi and Cesare Battisti, to imagine an Association such as Adg.

In 2018 she was part of the Technical Coordination Committee for the Year of Italian Food, and more recently, she joined Chef Manifesto, the initiative launched by Paul Newnham, which aims to end hunger, achieve safety food and promote sustainable agriculture by 2030.

Cristina has always tried to represent a role model for women in restaurant industry – an extremely unbalanced environment towards male representation – and beyond. A value that was also recognized on the occasion of TEDxMilano Women, TedXaubg, public talks to tell and enhance the “ideas that deserve to be lived”. In February 2018 she was appointed Ambassador by the Telefono Rosa Association.

Among her most heartfelt commitments, she had the pleasure of being the protagonist of the largest ACTION AID campaign in 2015, and she is among the ten founders in the Fiorano For Kids organization, for research on the therapeutic role of specific diets in the care of childhood epilepsy.

Her creativity in the kitchen and her commitments in various areas have meant that Cristina is often around the world to hold workshops and talks and that she has received numerous awards during her career, including: “Woman Chef of the Year” at Identità Golose 2013, “Best Female Italian Chef in Europe 2018” by Love Italian Life, Galvanina Award for Best Chef 2018 (during the XVIII edition of the Italian Cuisine Festival), FIC award for excellence and many others …
